Macronix reports revenue and profit growth for 2Q10

acronix International has announced revenues and net profits for the second quarter of 2010 boomed, mainly buoyed by rising NOR flash sales and output for 0.11-micron and more advanced technologies.
Macronix generated revenues of NT$7.33 billion (US$230 million) in the second quarter, up 12% sequentially and 27% on year. Net income for the quarter surged to NT$2.28 billion from NT$1.63 billion in the first quarter and NT$980 million in the second quarter of 2009.
Gross margin for the second quarter reached 51% compared to 47% in the prior quarter and 40% a year earlier. Macronix attributed the growth to higher product ASPs.
Macronix noted that actual results for second-quarter 2010 exceeded its guidance. The company added its utilization rate for the quarter climbed to 101%, higher than its estimate of 95%.
NOR flash accounted for 68% of sales in the second quarter, compared to 63% in the prior quarter and 52% a year ago. Macronix said sales of the flash business grew 22% on quarter and 67% on year in the second quarter.
Macronix revealed that 0.11-micron products contributed 32% to its NOR flash sales in the second quarter. The company also noted it is now sampling 75nm-made 256Mb products to customers.
Sales of Macronix' ROM products decreased 16% sequentially and 26% on year in the second quarter, the company said. The segment accounted for 22% of its second-quarter revenues, down from 29% in the first quarter and 38% in second-quarter 2009.
Macronix said it is shipping more ROM products made using 65nm process technology. The node accounted for 45% of its total ROM sales in the second quarter, compared to 38% in the first quarter and 8% a year ago.
Macronix expects revenues to reach NT$8-8.2 billion in the third quarter, with a 51-52% gross margin. Overall utilization rate is likely to remain strong at over 98% in the quarter.
