Micron Technology has announced a new 2Gb 50nm DDR2 memory device to support the upcoming Intel Atom platform - codenamed Oak Trail - specifically designed for tablet and netbook PCs.
Built on a 50nm process, the new 2Gb DDR2 can be used in 1-4GB UDIMM and SODIMM modules. The chip supports data rates of up to 800 megatransfers per second (MT/s), and operates at 1.55V.
Micron expects to begin sampling its 2Gb 50nm DDR2 in September 2010 with production planned for the fourth quarter of the year.
